The Village of Essex is committed to transparency and maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct in local government.
In light of potential development proposals currently being discussed in the community, the Village requested a legal ethics opinion to review whether any Village elected officials may have conflicts of interest related to these matters.
The opinion evaluates applicable Illinois law and reviews potential conflicts involving Village elected officials. The review concludes that no Village officials have conflicts of interest that would prevent consideration of development matters, with the exception that Trustee John Bohac has voluntarily indicated he will recuse himself from voting on issues involving Constellation Energy due to his employment relationship.
To ensure transparency and provide residents access to the same information available to Village officials, the full ethics opinion has been made publicly available.
Residents may review the document and additional development-related materials on the Village’s Development Information page.
The Village will continue to provide updates and documentation as additional information becomes available.
